Cr Michael Polan is Greater Shepparton's new Mayor following elections at today's Special Council Meeting.

Cr Chris Hazelman was elected Deputy Mayor.

Cr Polan said he was honoured to be elected Mayor and was looking forward to leading the municipality.

"I look forward to working closely with my fellow councillors and the Greater Shepparton community," Cr Polan said

"I congratulate Cr Dobson for his hard work over the past three years, building relationships with state and federal politicians and community groups.

"I look forward to the year ahead and the challenges that come with being Mayor.

"I would like to thank the councillors for their support in nominating me to serve as Mayor for 2012."

This is Cr Polan's first term as a councillor and first term as Mayor.
